Park And Pump

Park And Pump

Here, a farmer was seen pumping water from his vegetable plot (on right) and discharging the unwelcome flood water into an irrigation canal on left.

I was fascinated by the use of the PTO (power take off) transmission from the drive train of the tractor to power the water suction pump. The multi-tasking and multi use tractor is such a flexible tool for the farmer. Park and pump where it was needed.

Flooded Sekinchan

Flooded Sekinchan

Prolonged rainfall last night turned the flooded rice fields into a landscape resembling that of a sea. I asked a farmer if the planted paddy crop will be affected. He thinks not as lowland paddy can survive waterlogged conditions.

The distant building is a ,"bird hotel". Farmers and land owners supplement their income by harvesting the nests of swifts.

Behind are the vast paddy fields all flooded. We are at the cafe of the unique Farm Ville Homestay, a container hotel in the middle of the paddy fields of Sekinchan.

The Day I Met Mutt Rempit

The Day I Met Mutt Rempit

Me And You And A Dog Named Boo (Mutt Rempit).

Went to Sekinchan today to test Sony's new HDR Sky Camera App. At the paddy fields, I met a farmer raking his field, accompanied by his pet dog.

Asked him where he stays and he told me it is quite far. Naturally, I asked how the dog travels. He showed me.

The dog balances himself quite well on the back of the motorcycle, even when going around corners. Occasionally, the un-neutered dog jumps off when he sees a female.

Quite an amazing sight and Winter Solstice must be my lucky day.
