That Mee Tarik Place

That Mee Tarik Place

I saw this restaurant when looking for a budget Hotel in the Gombak and Setapak area. It is a few doors down from Ong Tak Kim Supermarket and is called the Mee Tarik Orient Palace.

It is run by a few mamak staff who dont speak much. They were upset when I wanted ice for my rose tea. I think they were afraid the flavour may not emanate from the the dried rose flower buds without hot water. They waiter couldn't express that. There goes my plans to ask him about the mee tarik.

For Chinese Only.

Alex is Chinese. Thus it was not surprising his eyes light up when the boss at the restaurant suggested Mui Choy Kau Yoke (梅菜扣肉) or braised pork belly steamed with preserved mustard greens - a kind of Chinese cabbage or bok choy.

The dish will always make a Chinese drool not just because it is a delicious porky dish but because it is from an ancient recipe. People are always happy to make a connection with tradition or heritage, I think.

Oh Glorious Oh Chien

Oh Glorious Oh Chien - Oyster Omelette

Might as well look at the Oh Chien (oyster omelette) dish again through the GM-1 camera. Also many were asking for the address and specific directions.

There are like a million seafood restaurants by the seaside and it can be confusing. Finding a good and fairly priced one may be like finding a needle in a haystack. We were simply lucky acting on gut feelings. Pun unintended. Address given below.

Wanton Act

Wanton Act

You can't please everybody. Someone asked me what the noodles and kelondong drink looked like. Good thing I turned around and 'stole' or 'curi' a shot from the neighbouring table before we ordered.
I asked permission from the strangers though. The proximity of tables in this crowded restaurant means, we being first timers, could hear and cue in on what everyone were ordering. Restaurant 168 is non-halal.

Kelondong And Wontons

Kelondong And Wontons

We stumbled upon the best wantan (mee) soup this side of town by chance. The wontons include a big sui kow dumpling and the regular wontons had bite size prawns in it. Wonderful stuff. The noodles and char siew were buried underneath when I scooped the wontons and vegetables onto the 'kon lo' noodles plate.

Nasi Ayam Kunyit at Auntie's Kopitiam, Kuala Selangor

Nasi Ayam Kunyit

That Sambal.

Nasi Ayam Kunyit (Rice with Turmeric Chicken). A favourite dish of mine at the humble Auntie's Kopitiam in Kuala Selangor's old town.

For so many years, I have always stopped here for a Kopi-O or for a simple meal when I am on the way to the paddy fields of Sekinchan.

A ray of sunlight, reflected off my car's windscreen, crept through the edges of the wax paper holding the dish; highlighting the sambal and part of the rice.

You may want to park your car strategically when doing on-location food photography. Heh.
